ToggleGames in The Wake of Diablo IV
The Diablo series has famously set the scene for a plethora of similar games to thrive. While Diablo IV is the latest and best in this franchise, there are plenty more MMO games in 2023 that deserve recognition and are worthy of your game time. Most notably, Warhammer, Path of Exile, and Titan Quest are all popular games amongst the Diablo fanbase. However, the wait for Diablo IV finally came to an end earlier this year, and it’s provided plenty for gamers to sink their teeth into.
The Diablo IV Experience
As an embodiment of modern-day MMORPGs, Diablo IV basically does what it says on the tin – very well. It is not a game that pioneers a new route forward for the industry, but rather, it focuses on nailing the things that we have come to expect from these types of games. With epic-looking combat, expansive upgrade options across different classes, and field-leading graphics, Diablo IV hit the nail on the head.
Where these aspects tick just about every box, though, there are some shortcomings of the game. The storyline, unfortunately, seemed to have more, untapped potential that was not explored in the gameplay, leaving something to be desired.
However, this is not to say that Diablo IV is not an awesome game: it truly sets a high standard for other games in the industry looking to compete with it.
Nailing The Narrative
While the story is not quite Oscar-worthy, it provides some interesting dialogue and a great set-up for Lilith, the antagonist of the story. Scenes that offer players an insight into the mind of this daughter of one of the Prime Evils of Hell are quite something – when they do come around, that is. For some reason, there seems to be a lot of pointless filler between canonical playthroughs that distract from the actual story, which does have some enticing points.
To summarize, Diablo IV is a pretty satisfying playthrough for fans of the MMORPG genre. Containing all the required ingredients in the formula for an entertaining game in 2023, gamers shouldn’t be left disappointed after playing this game. That said, the release of this game definitely highlights areas of improvement that can jumped on by future game developers in the industry. Taking more time and care to craft a truly compelling storyline and sticking to it would make this game an all-time great.
