Ghana: The Five Players That Have Highest Ranking

Ghana coach Otto Addo has guided the Black Stars to FIFA World Cup 2022 qualification. The former midfielder won 15 caps for his country as a player. FIFA+ pick out five players who could play a key role in their campaign.

Daniel Amartey

Position: Centre-back 

Age: 27

Daniel Amartey is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays for Leicester City and the Ghana national team. A graduate of International Allies’ youth academy, he played for Djurgården and Copenhagen before joining the Premier League club in 2016. Amartey was born 21 December 1994 in Accra, Ghana.

The 24-year-old was part of Leicester’s surprise title-winning team in 2015-16. He is one of only three players from that squad to still play for the club.

Ghana defender Amartey has won 43 caps for his country since making his debut in 2015. 27-year-old was named in the official team of the tournament when Ghana finished fourth at the Africa Cup of Nations in 2017. Has played every minute of all six internationals since new coach Avram Grant appointed.

Mohammed Kudus

Position: Attacking midfielder 

Age: 22

Mohammed Kudus (born 2 August 2000) is a Ghanaian professional footballer who plays for Eredivisie club Ajax and the Ghana national team.

Mohammed Kudus joins Ajax from FC Nordsjaelland ahead of the 2021/21 season. The 20-year-old has won the Dutch championship in each of the past two seasons. He has also featured for Ajax in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Ghana midfielder Kudus is one of the brightest talents of his generation. The 22-year-old has scored five goals in 16 international appearances to date. His versatility means he lends an element of energy and unpredictability to Ghana’s play.

Issahaku Fatawu

Position: Attacking midfielder 

Age: 18

Abdul Fatawu Issahaku (born 8 March 2004) is a Ghanaian professional footballer, who plays as an attacking midfielder for Sporting CP and the Ghana national team. Ghanaian striker Emmanuel Fatawu scored six goals in seven games for Dreams FC in the first half of the 2021/22 season. Since then he has been in the squad for every Liga Portugal and Champions League match.

The 18-year-old has played 12 times for Ghana and impressed in both legs of their World Cup play-off against Nigeria.

Andre Ayew

Position: Left winger or forward 

Age: 32

Ghanaian international footballer André Morgan Rami Ayew (born 17 December 1989) is the captain of the Ghana national football team. He was named the BBC African Footballer of the Year in 2011 and Ghanaian Footballer Of The Year in 2010.

Iñaki Williams Arthuer (born 15 June 1994) is a Spanish-Ghanaian forward who plays for Athletic Bilbao. He has made over 340 first-team appearances for the club, including a La Liga record of over 230 consecutive games.

He has not missed a single La Liga match since April 2016, breaking the record previously held by Juan Antonio Larranaga. Williams has yet to win an international cap for Ghana.

Ghana international Anthony Williams has been called up to the national team for the upcoming World Cup warm-up matches against Brazil and Nicaragua.
